Blender vs Spline: A Desktop 3D Suite or a Browser Tool for Web Scenes

They overlap on “3D”, and not much else. One produces renders and models; the other produces something a visitor can click.

Feature and pricing lines come from our directory entries, built from each product’s site, checked 2026-10-17. Prices change; confirm on spline.design.

The short version

Pick Blender when the output is an image, a video, a game asset or a printable model. Pick Spline when the output is a scene that lives on a web page and reacts to the visitor.

Where the choice gets real

A product page with a rotating 3D object is the classic Spline job: the designer builds it in the browser, wires a hover state, and ships it as a web embed. Doing the same in Blender means exporting and then writing or finding the web code yourself.

A short animated film, a texture-painted character or a hard-surface model is the Blender job. Spline’s listed features do not include sculpting or rigging with bones.

Plenty of people use both: model and bake in Blender, bring the result into a web scene. We have not tested that round trip here, so check the import formats Spline currently accepts before planning around it.

Is Spline worth paying for?

That depends on whether you need collaboration or the paid-tier limits, which we do not list. Start on the free plan with a real scene and see what you hit. Blender cannot make you pay, which is its own kind of advantage.

FAQ

Is Spline a Blender alternative?

Only for web-first 3D. Spline builds interactive 3D scenes in the browser and exports them to web, iOS and Android. It does not list sculpting or bone rigging, which Blender does.

Is Blender or Spline free?

Blender is free and open source. Spline has a free plan; our directory notes paid plans from $12 per month billed yearly.

Can I use Blender models in Spline?

We have not tested this. Check the file formats Spline currently imports on spline.design before you rely on that workflow.
