Mistral Free mode
Mistral’s older “Experiment plan” URL returns 404. The subscriptions page calls the current default “Free mode”: the default state for new accounts. Paid plans add seats, features, and included monthly usage. No credit card is described as a requirement for Free mode on that page.
Rate limits are not published as numbers
The usage-and-limits page says Free mode lets you create API keys and use included monthly usage within the limits shown on the Limits page. Completion rate limits are listed per model and include tokens per minute and requests per second. Those figures are on the logged-in Limits page at admin.mistral.ai. This page does not invent RPM or TPM for Free mode.
A model priced at $0 on the inference pricing page, such as a moderation model, is a model price. It is not the Free mode monthly allowance.
What Free mode does not include
- Zero data retention is available on paid plans for supported stateless API calls. ZDR and training opt-out are separate controls. The ZDR page says you do not need ZDR to opt out of model training.
- The Admin API is not available on plans other than Enterprise.
- If included monthly usage is exhausted and pay-as-you-go is off, usage can stop until the next billing period.
How to get a key
The subscriptions doc points plan management at admin.mistral.ai/subscription. After an account exists, rate limits are at admin.mistral.ai/plateforme/limits. The docs describe activating Studio in Free mode and generating an API key. Public docs fetched for this page do not list a numeric free quota to copy.
